Keyword Research and Good Content
Websites that are created without online methods to drive traffic their way will sit in limbo forever, with their owners pouring cash into them and wondering why they have no visitors.
If you own a website, you have to do something to drive lots of traffic your way. A great way to do this is to get your website onto the 1st page of the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. To do this, you need to do keyword research and provide good content on your site.
Getting Your Business on Page One of Google
In the past, it was very difficult and almost impossible for the average online entrepreneur to get ranked on the first page of Google, without the use of paid methods. However, things have changed in the last few years. The constant evolution of information technology has changed the way search engines function. This evolution in technology gives virtually anyone, with the proper keyword research and good content, the ability to get their business, website or products positioned on the first page of Google and other highly respected search engines for a selected keyword phrase.
There are 3 essential things you need to consider:
1) Keyword Research
Keyword research involves the selection of specific words or phrases used in your good content that will be sought out by the search engines when someone does a search. These words or phrases will vary depending on the type of business or website you have. However, there is one thing they all have in common, they will be competing with other pages and content trying to rank for similar keyword phrases.
You need to know which keywords and phrases to go after. Without proper keyword research you will waste a lot of time, effort and dollars. You will want to select those keywords with the lowest competition and highest monthly searches on the internet. This can be done with a simple keyword research tool.
2) Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Good Content Creation
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of your content from the eyes of the major search engines. SEO is a strategy that must be taken into account when preparing your content. Think of it as, “custom tailoring your content” to be the most attractive and effective response to the keywords your target market is currently typing into the search engines.
If you are creating a domain name, page or post for your website it is important to use the selected keywords here as well. In addition to keyword research and good on-page SEO practice, it is also important to create valuable, insightful content that can be posted on your website, blog and other high authority sites and directories that link back to your original content.
This backlinking building process is often referred to as off-page SEO and does take some other factors into account like proper anchor text diversity and category selection.
Good Keywords, Keyword Research and Keyword Density
While writing your good content, you need to include those words that you selected during your keyword research. This article is a good example of keyword research, good content and keyword density. Generally, 1-2% of the total word count should consist of the selected keywords you are going after.
Let’s take an 800 word article with selected keywords “good content”. The keywords “good content” should appear appear no more than 15-18 times (1-2% of total word count) throughout the body of the article. You also want to make sure your content is between 400-1000 words in length, is informative, valuable and easy to understand.
Another great trick is to use the keywords in the title and in supportive heading tags within your content!
The main idea is to create good content that is unique to you. This is where our creative minds are allowed to express themselves, allowing those who can relate to you, to connect with you. Those who read your content, find it valuable and can relate to it will most likely follow you on more than one occasion.
Search engines love unique and up to date content, which is great news for creative entrepreneurs who are looking for new ways to expand their business via the internet. Once indexed by the search engines, your good content can be viewed by those who are searching for the keywords you select.
It is a good idea to promote your content with the proper tools in order to compete with other sites that may be similar to yours. Good content can be written for any subject on which you have knowledge, interest and which you have researched.
3) Distribute Your Good Content
After you have created your good content, you will need to post it on your blog or website. You can also post your content in article and video directories, squidoo lenses, hub-pages, and other high authority locations. The main idea is to get your good content out there, where the search engines will find it, ultimately driving laser targeted traffic your way.
You should also implement a promotional strategy to boost your content’s ranking in the search engines.
Once your content is on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing for a given keyword or phrase, people will read your content more often. The result: you can then begin directing big-time, laser targeted traffic to your website or blog.
Content marketing is a great way to drive traffic to your site, and takes some time to ramp up results. However, it is by far, one of the cheapest and most effective traffic generation strategies on the internet.
